Meet Our 2024 Davis Projects for Peace Fellow!

MIT junior Victory Yinka-Banjo is the PKG Center’s 2024 Davis Projects for Peace Fellow! Victory is partnering with NaijaCoder Inc. and the University of Lagos’s Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Laboratory (AIRLAB) to support youth, promote sustainable development, and foster lasting peace in Nigeria.

Victory’s project aims to provide quality computer science education to undeserved high school students in Lagos, Nigeria. Through a 2-week intensive summer program in August 2024, students will receive free instruction on algorithms and computer programming, facilitated by the University of Lagos’ Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Laboratory (AIRLAB). Victory and her mother, alongside other founding faculty/instructors, have worked in this community since Victory was in high school! They are partnering with NaijaCoder Inc., a stellar nonprofit and research/education institute based in the US and Nigeria. They will train 50 students weekly on data structures, algorithms, and Python programming. The initiative seeks to equip students with marketable skills, ultimately aiming to break the cycle of adversity and promoting sustainable development and lasting peace/innovation in Nigeria.
