Announcing TLL’s Speaker Series Line-up for Fall 2023

The Teaching + Learning Lab’s 2023-2024 Speaker Series will center around inclusive and equitable teaching. This year’s talks will focus on strategies to support achievement and belonging for all MIT students. We are looking forward to welcoming the following speakers:

  • September: Dr. Amanda Diekman, Provost Professor, Psychological and Brain Sciences at Indiana University, Bloomington, will discuss how instructors can promote collaborative opportunities and communal goals to increase interest in STEM fields — especially for women and other underrepresented groups.
  • October: Dr. Julie Stanton, Associate Professor of Biology at the University of Georgia, will share her findings on how disabled students in undergraduate STEM courses experience pedagogical practices, like the implementation of active learning in the classroom.
  • December: Dr. Sarah Rose Cavanagh, Senior Associate Director for Teaching and Learning at Simmons University and author of the newly released Mind Over Monsters will explore how to create a challenging and compassionate learning environment that supports students’ mental health. Co-sponsored by the Office of Student Wellbeing at MIT.

TLL’s annual Speaker Series aims to disseminate evidence-based teaching practices to the MIT community of faculty, instructors, staff, and students.

Check our website for specific dates and times as they become available. All events will be held on Zoom.
